Jaiden is now 2 months and 3 weeks old and he is exclusively been breastfed, he is gaining weight just fine at least that's what the Doctor has told me. But my question is how come no one told me that breastfeeding is not fun. Don't get me wrong, but I enjoy spending mommy-son time with him, but someone forgot to mention that breastfeeding is OUCH!!!
The latch is good, I know he is taking in the milk, his mouth is always white after each feeding and he's always spitting up a little bit of milk probably from each feeding, since my family thinks I over feed him. My biggest complain is clogged milk ducts, they are painful, if for some reason I miss a feeding or he sleeps more than 3 hours and I do not pump past the 3 hour mark, one of the milk ducts on either side of my breast will guarantee get clogged and man o man does it hurt. The first time I had it, I was so scared it was a cancerous lump, I called the lactation specialist, they reassured me that it was not and that I need to get rid of it before it becomes worse. My question for the lactation specialist was, "how in the world do you get rid of these so called ouch lumps," she quoted, "just let him keep feeding on the side of the lump for as long as you can or you can pump until it goes away. Oh joy, did that work. As soon as it was feeding time, I made sure my little man got on the side of the clogged duct and sure enough he got rid of it. So the moral of the story is when in doubt - ask and make sure you don't get clogged milk ducts.
