'Ode to the Bottle...

'Ode to the Bottle: oh bottle...oh bottle...how I am so glad you have fed my baby milk for the last 18 months of his life, now I wish you well goodbye.

My question is HELP? Yes it's a question. Baby Jaiden loves his bottles for milk, he drinks everything else out of a cup/sippy cup but not the milk. Today, I learned that either you stop the bottle at 1 year or the next best is Eighteen months. The challenge is now...we to break the bottle and w/in three days, he was back on the bottle.
He really loves his Milk bottle. Everyone has told me to throw away the bottles and start putting the milk in a sippy cup and keep telling him that, "your milk is now in the sippy cup and when you are ready to drink milk, drink from the cup." Can I say, "Challenge."
I want to keep him on the bottle, he is still my baby...but at the same time I don't want to give him future tooth/teeth issues via the bottle. Oh the challenges of trying to be the best...again HELP?

To Bumbo or not to Bumbo?

"Look at me Mommy, I can sit on my own."

Quite a few parents and to-be-Parents always ask me, "would you buy a Bumbo?" For those people who do not know what a Bumbo is, it is a small seat for infants to sit in to help with back muscles and bones basically to help learn sit on their own with no support.
Personally, I have not heard anything wrong with the Bumbo. I have only heard positive feedback. Of course you should not leave your child unattended while seating on the Bumbo and never keep it close to the the edge of a table. But I personally believe that the Bumbo is great for children under 6 to 7 months old.
My son loved his Bumbo, I wish we had purchased it earlier, we bought it when he was about 5 months and only benefited for the next two months. It did help him and eventually sat down w/out any sort of support.
So the answer to my title question is - Yes to the Bumbo. Go buy one, blue/pink/yellow and I believe there is a green. You can also put a eating tray on it, so one day in the near future your baby will be able to learn to eat on a highchair. The picture above is my Friend's baby on a Bumbo...Look how great she looks and is sitting on the Bumbo with such comfort!!!

Hello 2011!!!

I know it's been forever since I have updated my blog...say 9 months ago was the last entry...:-(
Well, alot has happened since my last entry but here is a quick update:
October 17, 2010 - Jaiden turns 1!!!
October 18, 2010 - Jaiden is in the 90th percentile for height - WTH to that...(hubby and I are small) - go figure
September 10 to December 13, 2010 - Mommy takes a short term Job Contract and misses Jaiden's first steps... :-(
January 17, 2011 - Jaiden is 15 months old and boy can he understand so much more now. 23 lbs and 31 inches tall - still in the 90th percentile. I blame the milk :-)

Mommy gave me PRUNES!!!!

9 Months Baby Check-up

July 17 officially was my little man's 9 month birthday. Time is flying by, it feels like yesterday I brought him home from the hospital and had no clue what to do next, but now it's like a breeze. He sleeps through the night, well let me take that back, he sleeps from 8:2o ish around to about 4am, wakes daddy up, he got the night shift (he he...). So the little man wakes up around 4am, I still don't know if he is hungry, cold, warm or just misses me :-)
I will figure it out one day. So he wakes up at 4am plays for about half an hour then falls asleep finally waking up at 8am ish, If I am lucky he wakes up at 8:30am. Oh how I miss the days of sleeping in, will we ever meet sleeping in days? Probably not but that's okay, this is part of the a wonderful job, taking care of the little one. Plus I have my sister to wake up at early and watch him while I get some zzzzz's, hey gotta have some perks. Plus it's her nephew and she doesn't mind.
So at our 9 month doctor appointment, the Doctor checked his vitals (a-ok) and checked his weight unfortunately it's in the 10th percentile (17lbs 4 oz). I am not so worried as I have been in the past. I was a tiny girl. My hubby was tiny too so no worries, he is active and healthy, that's all that matters. He is tall however, surprisingly (28 inches tall) apparently he is in the 50th percentile for that. I am shocked, both my hubby and I are short, not that short, but we short. I wonder if the little man will be tall...hmmmm...
Anyway, he is a-ok in the Doctor's book. Now my challenge is what should a 9 month old be eating. The Doctor said whatever is on your plate, of course certain things he cannot have yet. And I don't want to introduce sugars to him as yet, he will have the whole life to eat sugars. I wonder however if he will eat sugary items. I love candy and my husband not at all. I hope the little one loves candy. Don't tell hubby that :-)

Baby Food Menu

Alot of fellow Mommy's ask me what was Jaiden's first Solid Foods? So I decided to blog what foods he has had and what the time frame I introduced it to him. Here we gooooo...

5 months: Rice Cereal - Once daily
5 1/2 months: switched from Rice Cereal (constipapted baby) Oatmeal (that helped) - once daily
6 months: Carrots/Oatmeal/Yams/Peas/Prunes - any one of these meals once daily
7 months: Oatmeal in the morning then either Carrots/Yams/Peas/Prunes for dinner
Now that he is a sitter I also started Banana Mango/Applesauce(got him too hyper)/Veggie Garden mix.
I also introduced him grapes in the Sassy Teething Feeder - Love it, Jaiden loves it too.

Now that he is 8 months: I will add once more meal to his menu. My plan is:
Morning - Oatmeal
Lunch - Fruit Dish
Dinner - Vegetable Dish

We still give him either breastmilk/formula four or five times a day.

Also I forgot to mention, Jaiden's doctor gave the ok for water, only four ounces per day and we could use arrowhead drinking bottle water. I keep a baby bottle of four ounces of water with me, in case he gets thirsty, plus the summer is coming so it's good to keep water handy.

Happy Father's Day

It has been so long since I have written, man life really does happen. Jaiden's sleeping, gives me a chance to write a paragraph or two.....On May 23th, I saw a bit of white in his mouth...TEETH!!!!!

Great my breastfeeding days are slowly coming to an end, actually I decided just recently that it is best that I stop, not only because he gets so distracted while eating but because in the last couple of days, he started biting..owwww...sorry about the TMI, but seriously, it hurts. Mr. Husband keeps cheering him on. Let's see if he gets a nice Father's day gift this year.

Anyway, breastfeeding is great and all and I defiantly recommend to all new mommy's, it's great to give your baby all the immunities from it, however breast milk disappointed me last week: he got sick. Mr. Jaiden felt ill during the last game of the Laker/Celtic 2010 match, poor guy was out of it. We got home from our almost daily outing and he felt warm and just not himself. I was shocked, I thought breast milk was a healing or a fountain of youth. Oh the shock and disappointment.

After my dramatic let down, I realized that Mr. Jaiden will get sick, every kid does, he would not be a kid if he didn't right? So just to be on the safe side. I made an appointment with the doctor that Friday and went in, she checked him, stating that he had a virus and the fever should go away by Monday. Fortunately, it must have been a 24 hour fever, Saturday morning came around and he was perfectly fine, playing, putting things in his mouth and being my little monkey that he his :-) ahhh the new adventure of parenting.

Gotta give props to Mr. Husband, he took care of baby while I was weak with sadness for the little one, yea I am no super Mom, but thank god I have a Super Dad - Happy Father's Day!!!!
